Yearbook 2023 - 2024-3rd Block

Course Description

This course is an elective course that gives students marketable experience in print media publishing. It is an introduction to the principles of yearbook journalism culminating in the production of the yearbook for Alcoa High School. Yearbook class is different from every course taught at this school in that it is a real business maintaining an account that must balance-out at the end of term. Because “Yearbook” is a monetary business, students must cooperatively work with others, must be industrious, and be eager to be creative. This course will engage students in the basics of yearbook production including graphic design, copy writing, editing, photo composition, interviewing techniques, ad sales, and organizational and management skills. This course is demanding. Students who are creative, organized and outgoing will do particularly well in this class. You will be working independently or in a small group to complete assignments and deadlines. Most of your work will be done during class; however, there will be times when you need to complete work after school or during free time (pictures, interviews, ad sales, etc). Out of class and after school, students will “shoot” digital photos, sell and design advertising, and disseminate yearbook order forms. Students are responsible for the proper care and handling of our digital cameras
