Prerequisite: Signature of previous social studies teacher.
 
The fields of both microeconomics and macroeconomics are included in this study of the economic decision making process. An examination of the allocation of scarce resources in the product market and factor market will highlight the interaction of the consumer, producer and government. Greater dependence on mathematical principles will further student understanding of economic ideas such as supply and demand, market structures, the role of government, national income determination, money and the role of financial institutions, economic stabilization, and trade. Students will examine the key economic philosophies and economists who have influenced the economies around the world in the past and present. Greater emphasis will be placed on informational texts and primary sources. Three projects are completed during this course. Students will receive academic weighting in this course. Assessments are done in social studies classes by using a variety of methods including tests, quizzes, essays, research, required projects, class participation, etc. This course qualifies for additional grade weighting.
