Math Club

The AHS Math Club is a chapter of the national Mu Alpha Theta math honors society. The Math Team participates in individual and team competitions, covering topics from Algebra through Calculus. Previously attended competitions include: TMTA Maryville College Math Contest, TN State Convention of Mu Alpha Theta, Tennessee Math Coalition Tournament, and Rocket City Math League. The group also helps facilitate math events at Alcoa Elementary, Alcoa Intermediate, and Alcoa Middle School to grow a love of math for students of all ages. Other activities include: Pi Day, individual tutoring, and field trips to facilities of math interest (such as Oak Ridge National Labs, TVA, etc.)

Math Club meets at 7:45 on Tuesdays in Mrs. Williams' room.

Mu Alpha Theta

This is select membership to a national math club, separate of AHS Math Club. To be a MAT Member, students must have completed Algebra 1 & Geometry and have a 3.0 math GPA. Members are eligible for college scholarships and additional competition and convention opportunities. They are also awarded chords to wear for senior graduation. Speak to Mrs. Williams to join. Lifetime national membership is $10; yearly state membership is $2.
