ATTENTION SENIORS: If you are taking WBL in the spring or are early graduating in December, your portfolio and all other work are due no later than 1 week before the posted due date for the portfolio.

The goal of your work-basked learning portfolio is to provide you with a valuable resource as you transition from the world of academics into the workforce. The required and suggested materials in this portfolio can be made available to a prospective employer to provide important information for hiring decisions. A well-developed portfolio can provide you with an advantage over other job or college applicants.

Your portfolio can be a hard copy in a binder or cover, a Google Slide file, a Google Site, or another appropriate format. If you use a digital format, ensure all documents are embedded and accessible to all viewers. Do not use "long links". Use <CTRL> or <CMD> K to add a link to an image or word(s). I should not see things like this in your documents: https://classroom.google.com/w/NjMzMjg1MTc1ODE3/t/all. If you don't know how to make words or images into hyperlinks, stop by my room and I will help you.

Your portfolio should include your monthly reflections, letters of recommendation, a professional resume, a cover letter, a list of responsibilities, skills assessment, self-assessment, all of your evidence (artifacts) that support your learning experience, and any additional information or items you feel would give a complete picture of you and your educational and work experience. Remember, your portfolio is a great way to present yourself to the world. Make it look good.
Use the attached Google Slide document to record and submit your monthly reflection. You will need 3 images from your placement as evidence for your on-the-job learning during the month. These can be photos of things you have completed, work you have done, or anything else that can be used as evidence in your portfolio. You can take pictures of people, places, or things. If you work in a placement where privacy law prevents you from taking onsite photos (e.g. doctor's office, etc), use stock photos (pixabay.com or others) and describe how the photo relates to your placement.
This document is not due until later in the term. However, it is important to work on this during your placement. I recommend reading over Part B at the beginning of your placement so you know what type of information you will need to complete this section of your Personalized Learning Plan. Don't wait until the last minute to do this assignment. It will take longer than you think.
Obtain three letters of recommendation. If at all possible, depending on whom you ask, it would be best if these were on the company/school letterhead.

Attach a PDF copy of these documents. Keep the originals for your portfolio.

NOTE: Letters of recommendation take time to write. PLEASE ask for these before Spring/Fall break. Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on the part of the people you ask to write these. This assignment will be considered late even if it is the letter writer's "fault" unless you can prove you asked for the letter a minimum of two weeks in advance (e.g. an email dated more than two weeks in advance of the due date asking for the letter).
Write a cover letter for your resume. The attached document is filled with great information to help you write your cover letter. The purpose of this assignment is to give you the experience of writing a cover letter. This letter can be to a real person to whom you are going to give the letter, a real person two whom you would like to give the letter, or an imaginary person that represents the type of person to whom you want to submit the letter. Here are some ideas for people you could address with your cover letter:
The Dean of Admissions of a college.
The manager of a business to which you are applying for work.
The CEO of the corporation that represents your dream job.
The director of a non-profit with which you want to volunteer.
A company for which you want to intern.
Attach a PDF copy of the document. Keep the original for your portfolio.
