Dr. Joy Gornto

Faculty Bio

This is my 11th year teaching Marketing and leading DECA at Alcoa High School. I graduated Tusculum College with a minor in Marketing and a Bachelors in Organizational Management. After working many years in the business world I realized my true passion was to teach so I then went on to Lincoln Memorial University to earn my Masters and then EdS in Educational Leadership. I finished my PhD in Leadership at The University of the Cumberlands in 2023 where I also received my MBA.

In the past 12 years I have taught Marketing I, Marketing II, Retail Operations, Sports and Event Planning, Hospitality Management, Hospitality and Tourism, Work Based Learning and Yearbook. Each of these experiences has enriched my teaching and given me the opportunity to teach many different students. I feel that we have a very strong Marketing and DECA program. I am also over the Marsh School Store. The store is a part of our marketing program and I love the fact that students get real world experience working in a retail environment. I have seen many students grow in maturity and responsibility through this experience.

I am married to David Gornto who is also a teacher and we have 2 boys, 1 dog and 2 cats! My 24 year old and 20 year old boys graduated from Alcoa. We live in the Alcoa community so I am not only invested as a teacher but a parent and member of the community as well.

I am proud to be a tornado and look forward to having your student in my class.
