At this point in the story, how much of an asset does Gandalf seem to be? Why doesn’t Gandalf do more to "save the day"? Are his powers limited, or is he intentionally refraining from using them? Why is it necessary to the story that he leave the expedition in this chapter?

1. Complete "The Charge of the Light Brigade" in the textbook.  Read and annotate poem on pages 78-79. Complete the Comprehension Check questions for the poem on page 80.  Complete the Analyze Craft and Structure (read the top and complete chart for only this poem) on page 82.

2.  Complete the attached assignment.  Follow all instructions on the document.  If you are absent, you can complete everything except the selection test at home.  You will need to schedule a time to take the selection test in morning tutoring.

If absent, please schedule a time to make-up your test.

1. Practice creating Kennings (worksheet provided in class) - it is attached here so you can print off if absent.
2. Review slides for boast reminders, requirements, and rubric.
3.  Write your own formal boast and attach your document to this assignment.

After finishing the reading of Beowulf, complete the attached assignment.  You will use your textbook to complete.  Submit to this assignment by due date.

For Monday: Complete parts A and B (through number 3).

After reading "The Battle with Grendel" and "The Battle with Grendel's Mother", complete the attached assignment and submit to Google Classroom.

1.  Complete the attached assignment (The Battle with Grendel Student Digital Assignment) and submit before reading "The Battle with Grendel".

Additional notes from class:
We watched two video clips and completed a graphic organizer to compare and contrast.  I will attach those slides here as well, so you can either print the organizer, watch at home, and turn in.  Or you can come in during tutoring to complete the assignment.

1. Read and annotate the text "A World of Heroes" on pages 6-7 in the textbook (annotation notes are posted on Google Classroom and this assignment).
2. Complete the objective summary activity on page 8 in the textbook.
3. Complete the constructed response attached to this assignment.  Submit to this assignment by the due date (start in class and finish for homework).

After reviewing the syllabus in class, complete the attached form acknowledging you have read and understand the syllabus.

In the response section, please give the title and author of the book you chose for your first DIR book.
