Health Science Education-4th Block Fall 2023 Assignments

Create a Google slide presentation from your portfolio contents. You should begin with a slide that has your name at the top and an “about me” column, “future goals” column, and a picture. Then, you will have a title slide before each section and then a slide for each artifact. You will make a slide for each artifact in your portfolio- this is an example of slide layout and IS NOT COMPLETE.

Use the attached document as your Portfolio Table of Contents. It will be a stand-alone document in your portfolio folder. Read ALL directions and make sure to complete your portfolio for a good grade. This will be counted as your final test grade, so this is a great opportunity to improve your grade!

Spend time researching this, and make sure to turn in your notes (chart) at the end of class.

1. Gather all notes and work from the Healthcare Systems Unit. Highlight and make a list of features of our healthcare system and other healthcare systems that you like.

2. Research our current president's beliefs about health care in the United States. Take notes. You may use the back of your chart.

3. Use the research you obtained throughout this unit to write a letter to the President outlining your thoughts on needed healthcare changes. Base your recommendations on comparisons that you made among countries with high healthcare efficacy scores that were featured in “Sick Around the World”.
Your letter should contain an introduction, the body of the letter where you share your thoughts and recommendations, and a conclusion where you wrap up your thoughts. I have attached a sample letter to assist in formatting your letter.

You will be responsible for educating the class about the countries included in the film Sick Around the World. Your presentation should include:
1. basic information about the country (location on a map, population)
2. culture including diet/food they eat
3. religious beliefs
4. healthcare values
5. communication (language, norms)


You will present your information before we watch it in the video. We will have a cultural buffet at the end of our presentstions so begin thinking about what food your group will bring to represent your country.

Complete the assigned career profile. Make a copy when you are finished and put in your career folder in your portfolio. I have linked ONET for you to use for your research.

Document the treatment you provided for your dental "patient". You will document why your patient was seen in the office, research and document your patient's problem and how you would treat it, and then take a picture of your treatment and attach it to the document.
Please take a before and after picture.

Complete the short Maslow's quiz. Write a paragraph summarizing what you learned about yourself! Do you agree with what level you were given? Why/why not?

Choose one of the stages of development on your timeline and identify something that your timeline person might need some additional information to live your best, healthy life. For example, you might use exercise and fitness, healthy eating and nutrition, sleep promotion, stress reduction, mental health issues, drug/alcohol/tobacco use, or STDs.You will create a health education presentation that includes:
signs/symptoms of the behavior or disease (what does it look or act like)
physical concerns associated with it (why is this a problem?)
preventative measures (how would you keep it from happening?)
treatments
support systems (who will help?)
You may create a Google slide presentation, Prezi, Canva, Educational Poster, or whatever platform you desire. Make sure to cover all the requirements for teaching and include 3 resources. Include pictures to make your presentation interesting and help explain your topic to your patient.

Body System Education Assignment Directions (Standards 7 & 8) 

Work with your partner to develop a Google Slide Presentation that covers the following information:

What are the main functions of your body system? 
What body processes is your system involved in, and what is its role in each of those processes?

What are the main organs in your body system?

What are the signs/symptoms of a balanced, healthy system?
Wellness Issue & Health Promotion: 
Explore stress and how it affects your body system.

Research and determine one community support system for reducing/dealing with stress as it relates to your system.

Complete the following case study. This is a critical thinking exercise so that you may engage with the topic we have been studying (vital signs) and understand its importance in clinical practice.

Following the outline you created yesterday and the notecards your created Wednesday, write your research paper. In this paper, you will create a paragraph (4-6 sentences) for each of the five headings on your outline for a total of five paragraphs. Your sentences should be complete sentences with correct punctuation and grammar. Make sure that you capitalize the beginning of each sentence.
Do your best professional work!

Using your assigned disease from the Breaking the Chain of Infection poster, create an outline for your research paper. Use the outline assigned to you and add the information from your notecards. A sample outline has been provided that you may use as a guide. You do not have to use complete sentences. You will make complete sentences in the paper you write tomorrow. This is a way to organize your information so that tomorrow, you will be ready to write!
 Today, the outline is due. Tomorrow, you will write the paper in class using your outline. You will receive a grade for both the outline and the paper.

Research information for your assigned disease (the one you used to create your chain of infection). You will need information about the six topics below.

You will organize this research onto notecards (see example). You should include 2 reliable sources from appropriate websites (.gov, .edu, or medical website- not web MD or Wikipedia.) From these 2 sources, you will create a notecard for each of the topics below for a total of 6 notecards:

1. General  Disease Information
2. Signs and Symptoms
3. Transmission
4. Diagnosis
5. Outbreak Effects on Public Health 
6. Sanitation and Disinfection

If your 2 sources do not have all this information, find an additional source.

On each notecard, you will have the following information:
Source name
Topic ( one of the 1-6 topics from above)
Information that you read from the source and will use in your paper

Research your assigned communicable disease to determine each link in the chain of infection. 

Then, use Google Drawings to create a poster of the chain of infection for the disease.
 
Use the ENTIRE space to create a colorful chain of infection. (Label the link of each chain)
Use words to explain each link.
Use pictures to support your information (at least 1 for each link)
In the middle, include common signs/symptoms of your disease.
