Part A (Compare Roof Pitches)
Roof pitch is often written as a ratio of rise to run. Roofs with a pitch of 1:12, for example, rise 1 foot for each 12 feet of run.
Sketch six roofs with different pitches (from 1:12 to 12:12), then use a protractor to determine the angle of each roof.
Upload your sketches to google classroom (this assignment). If using the provided worksheet, you can just turn it in in class.
If you wish, you could use the provided worksheet for this portion.
Make sure to sketch all six roofs separately. You will be graded on accuracy, how neat it is, and that all requirement are met.
Part B (Model the Pitch of a Roof)
Use lines to model the roof on a local building. If you live in a house with a pitched roof, you can use that roof.
Step 1: Draw the roof on a coordinate plane (use graph paper).
Step 2: Draw lines for each part of the roof. Write the equations of the lines.
Determine the point of intersection of the lines, which should be the peak of the roof.
If you wish, you could use the provided worksheet for this portion.
Upload your model to google classroom (this assignment). If using the provided worksheet, you can just turn it in in class.
You will be graded on accuracy, how neat it is, and that all requirement are met.
Part C (Research)
Research the roof pitches that work well with solar panels. Write a 0.5 - 1 page summary about your research, explaining why specific pitches work better.
Then design a roof to include solar panels. Calculate the pitch and the roof angle.
Upload your design to google classroom (this assignment). Use the attached document for your research.
You will be graded on accuracy, how neat it is, and that all requirement are met. Use Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced.
