Sophomore English combines studies in literature, writing, and grammar by building on students’ prior knowledge of these areas. The curriculum also incorporates the utilization and strengthening of other necessary academic skills such as vocabulary building, critical thinking, communication, research, and analysis. The overall goal of this course is for the students to grow as writers, to question norms, to appreciate literature, to analyze societal decisions (as they pertain to literature), to think creatively, and to be enthusiastic about the written word.

Due:
Describe a time you had an "eye-opening" experience. That is, a moment or event that changed how you viewed the world or yourself. What changed about you?
Due:
For whatever book you read, you will be responsible for keeping a running list of at LEAST twenty (20) new vocabulary words that you’ve encountered while reading your book. The list first needs to be written down and the new terms defined; finally, you need to submit a neat, typewritten version of the list with page numbers. You CAN feature more than 20 words in your list though there needs to be at LEAST that number as a bare minimum. Also, you need to complete the equivalent of ten (10) days worth of Journals for your book (that means TEN—10—total entries; they need to be in order and spread throughout your book).
Due:
Complete the open response.
Due:
Tell me about your break!
Due:
Do you believe a "haunted" house has more material value or less? Explain your reasoning.
Due:
In a one (1) page typed statement, tell me what book you are reading, the author of your book, why you are interested in this book/subject, and a sneak preview of what your actual final project might look like. This proposal is NOT a schematic or a legal contract; you can change your mind about your book or what your project will ultimately be as you make your way through the book, with approval of course. I just need to know that you are thinking about the process and that you have some ideas.
Due:
Unsubmit and review any comments. Resubmit with corrections to receive base grade listed on skyward + potential extra points.
