Profile

Dr. Roman Lay

I am a proud alumnus of Alcoa High School ('11). I began teaching at Alcoa High School in 2015 after graduating from Maryville College ('15). I also received my Master's degree from Tusculum ('19) and my Ed.D. from Trevecca ('22). My wife is the music teacher at Alcoa Elementary School, and together we have two wonderful children.

I have taught English at all four levels at Alcoa High School, including Speech and Communication (SDC), Drama, Advanced Placement English Language and Composition, and Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition. My passion is teaching classic and young adult literature, and although I love literature, my philosophy is that teaching students is more important than teaching literature.

I am the head coach for the Alcoa High School Tennis Team and the adviser for the Alcoa High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. I enjoy working with my brilliant students and players as they engage in our activities at Alcoa.
